A White Man’s Guide To Profiting Off Racism In Missoula And Beyond (While Synchronicities Tell A Different Story)

by Travis Mateer

Last week I wrote a juxtaposition piece comparing the slow grind of the criminal justice system with the lucrative career choices of an academic racism-investigator by the name of Tobin Miller-Shearer. Today’s post is a continuation of that critical look into this white man and the “consulting” company he uses to proliferate race-obsessed organizations across the country. With this focus in mind, let’s now take a look at Widerstand Consulting and see what we can see.

Optics are important, so obviously an organization that intends to DISMANTLE RACISM needs the color of a few BIPOCS splashed on a website to credibly sell its services. Clearly, this box has been checked by Widerstand Consulting. Now, let’s click on the “about” page for a better idea of how this “non-profit” is framing itself.

If you didn’t notice the BIG MOMENT for Dr. Shearer, let me quote the part where George Floyd’s death went KA-CHING! for this academic who is pictured above laughing his ass off. From the link (emphasis mine):

As the racial justice events of 2020 unfolded, Dr. Shearer was inundated with calls to provide training resources and consulting as groups began to take seriously the work of dismantling racism in their own institution.

If you don’t understand what this quote means, let me explain it from my perspective: the fear of liberal municipalities allowing meth’d out shock-troops to violently impose cultural change by destroying anything that didn’t comply with the new orthodoxy led to risk-mitigation strategies that increasingly now includes the use of consultants like Dr. Shearer to insulate entities from attack, either in meat space or digital.

This is why Tobin Miller-Shearer became INUNDATED as the “racial justice events of 2020 unfolded…” around the country.

If you scroll further down the about page, you will see the board of directors. One question I have is whether or not the oversight provided by a board of directors can be seen as credible when your wife is the Treasurer. There is some serious irony afoot if a white man preaching the sins of white privilege to others might somehow benefit from SPOUSAL privilege, were his consulting firm legally examined by a court of law.

Moving on from this red flag, I scrolled to the bottom of the main page and clicked on grants. This is where I discovered how special one has to be in order to get money from WIDERSTAND consulting. What do I mean? I mean you need a SPECIAL invitation to even apply. From the link (emphasis mine):

Who has been a recipient of this race-shaming, franchising effort from our laughing DOCTOR academic? Well, well, well, it appears the Montana Equity Project got its start with seed money from Dr. Miller-Shearer.

Now I’m going to talk about the dead black man, Sean Stevenson, who I referenced in my public comment because the OTHER grant recipient, Roots of Justice (RoJ), gave me some winding roots of synchronicity to follow, which I’ll do my best to explain to any of you who may still be simple coincidence theorists.

Sean Stevenson was born in the state of Pennsylvania, the same state where RoJ is based. While Sean’s birth city has given my Kansas City Chiefs some hard knocks in post-season play (Pittsburgh Steelers), it’s the city of RoJ that my Chiefs will be facing this Sunday (Philadelphia Eagles).

One of the pre-game narratives being pushed is the fact this Super Bowl will be the first featuring TWO black men starting at the quarterback position. The other narrative is the hyped face-off between two brothers, one of them named, of course, Travis.

It goes deeper.

Before coming to Missoula, Sean Stevenson lived in Denver, where he nearly died in a car accident involving several Denver Bronco football players. One them died, but Sean did not. Instead Sean woke up handcuffed to a gurney with some amount of brain damage that probably played a factor in his later self-medication with alcohol.

Broncos resonate for me in a way that, again, those who use coincidences as a dismissal-tool won’t appreciate. I assume that’s because they aren’t investigating human trafficking, of which Denver is a MAJOR hub, and they don’t correlate that kind of evil with symbolic statues. Statues like Blucifer.

I could go on with the connections, and will in another post, but for now (and to hint at what that future post will take a look at) I’ll remind readers that Sean Stevenson was taken off life support inside St. Patrick’s hospital BEFORE his family was notified. The City Council member who point-of-ordered me yesterday didn’t like me calling this euthanasia at the hands of the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office. Well, imagine how the family feels about this situation.

Then, imagine this family has an AMAZING history that involves (among MANY things) the earliest days of using helicopters in association with hospitals. Then take a look at one of the organizations that has benefited from Widerstand’s services (emphasis mine):

I’ll leave it there, for now, but YOU can help me continue my unique independent journalism by making a financial contribution at my about page.
