I don’t think Mayor Davis expected to confirm the story I was working on regarding Detective Guy Baker’s alleged retirement and post-retirement plans, but that’s what happened yesterday after I exited an art gallery with a pocket full of Legos.
Since Detective Baker hasn’t formally announced his retirement to the media who helped shape–and will continue to shape–his legacy, I’m pretty honored to be the first out of the gates to get the ball rolling.
Before I get to my speculation on what Baker plans to do after retiring, I’ll remind readers it was less than a week ago that I spoke to Pete Lawrenson, the retired Police Chief who told me (as I threw shade on his white-hat boy) that he was the one responsible for hiring Guy Baker.
Lawrenson wasn’t happy about the stories that sounded “exaggerated” and “judgmental” to him. Well, it might come as a surprise to readers to read that I actually sympathize with Pete Lawrenson. Like Pete, I wasn’t happy about writing all the concerning posts I’ve written over the years about his cop buddy’s kid, like my close coverage of Lee Nelson’s murder and subsequent trial.
For an idea of what my citizen journalism has done to the Guy Baker legacy that paid content creators like Jon and Connie couldn’t even if they WERE locals, here’s a titles to peruse:

Ok, with that out of the way, what could Detective Baker be planning to stay busy, post-retirement? According to one of my sources, Detective Baker plans on becoming PI Baker! If true I can only hope Baker will be as cool as Ed Opperman, the PI who I interviewed in December of 2021. I even bought Ed’s book!

The reason this book suddenly became relevant is because the data point I previously reported regarding Baker’s black Escalade sporting IDAHO license plates suddenly makes sense to me when you know Idaho does NOT require a license to be a private investigator like other states do.

It’s a BIG responsibility being so early in reporting such fascinating and worrisome aspects of our local power structure, but with my Gonzo tendencies and artistic Lego flair, I do believe I have an ideal position in this community to continue doing what I’m doing, which you can see for yourself at the XXXXs on Friday. I even have a new poem to perform, so come on down if you’re a local and you LOVE free speech as much as I do!
And, as always, thanks for reading!
