The Missoula Homeless Industrial Complex Is A Blackhole For Money And Stupidity- by Travis Mateer

On the day before Tax Day over 40 paid city officials, including a bunch of city police, converged on West Broadway and Scott Street, near the Poverello Center, to cleanup the mess enabled by our stupid city and a certain non-profit I’m legally forbidden from writing about.

Since I’m obligated to tell my probation officer about EVERY police interaction I’ll be telling her later this week how the code-enforcement lady who told me I had to leave the “work zone” for my own safety. She was already familiar with my work and even THANKED ME for doing what I do, which I’m assuming probably does NOT include making fun of Detective Guy Baker, which I definitely did as I described the cartel-connected shit-show our cops can’t handle.

If you think I’m being unfair to our boys and girls in blue, here’s a literal admission that they can’t handle the drug crisis:

NBC Montana sat down with Detective Mike Sunderland with the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office on Monday morning to discuss the drug crisis in the county.

“The drug problem within our community is out of control,” Sunderland tells us.

Sunderland says in Missoula County they are seeing meth and fentanyl daily. He says the only solution to this drug crisis is within society.

“This isn’t just a localized problem; this is a worldwide problem. There are so many people that are addicted to these illegal drugs. Frankly, we will never police our way out of this problem. There has to be a cultural shift worldwide in order for that to get better,” said Sunderland.

Another example of Missoula’s utter stupidity when dealing with drugs and homeless people can be read about in this recent article from KGVO about the dude who complained about his pallet house being dismantled before the Authorized Camping Site closed down. Guess what? Tully was just arrested with for having a POUND of meth.

On April 12, 2025, a Missoula Police Department Officer conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Orange St. for failing to use its turn signal twice. The officer exited her patrol vehicle and contacted the single male occupant, later identified as 51-year-old Tully Sanem.

The officer returned to her patrol vehicle to review Sanem’s documents. The officer learned that Sanem had called 911 to report a methamphetamine and acid overdose in November of 2024. The officer also learned that Sanem’s neighbor reported repeated drug use in and around Sanem’s trailer.

Another individual reported that Sanem had sold them methamphetamine multiple times, the last time as recently as late March of 2025. That individual reported Sanem sold methamphetamine out of his box van and Sanem usually kept methamphetamine in a tackle box style container in the back of his van.

These are the types of idiots who are impacting policy in this town because our twin socialists on Council, Kristen Jordan and Daniel Carlino, are too willfully ignorant to understand what is actually happening on the streets.

All this makes what I now get to deal on misdemeanor supervision EXTRA FUNNY, like having to pee in a cup FOUR times so far, at my expense of course. It’s almost like the judicial system is invested in keeping me poor and angry from the obvious lawfare I’ve been subjected to for two years.

Speaking of the judiciary, have you ever heard of JUDGE nullification? You’ve probably heard about JURY nullification, but JUDGE nullification is what appears to have happened to Judge Larson recently when EVERYONE operating his treatment court decided they were going to coordinate a work-stoppage.

In October, the Missoula County Attorney’s Office, the Office of Public Defender and Missoula Youth Probation all withdrew from participation in Larson’s youth drug court. All three offices also have active complaints against Larson pending before the Judicial Standards Commission, which oversees district judges.

In a defiant court filing following the withdrawals, Larson suggested the move had been “coordinated” and vowed to press on without them.

But last month, Larson officially turned over his jurisdiction of the youth treatment court to Missoula District Judge Shane Vannatta, who assumed jurisdiction on March 17. Vannatta declined to be interviewed about his plans for the treatment court or the circumstances leading up to the switch in leadership.

“After 28 years serving as the presiding judge of the Missoula Youth Drug Treatment Court, the undersigned hereby withdraws from jurisdiction and invites the Honorable Shane A. Vannatta to assume jurisdiction,” Larson wrote in a court document filed March 10.

Yep, the Judge who upheld my ban on writing about that local non-profit I’ve criticized for years, Mandamus Shane, is now presiding over Judge Larson’s treatment court. What terrible things has Larson done to warrant this judiciary coup?

An Oct. 4 email from Youth Court Chief Probation Officer Christine Kowalski struck a sharper tone.

“I know that you are aware of the dysfunctional dynamic of the Drug Court team and due to that dynamic I do not feel that it is a safe environment for Youth Court to participate in at this time, nor am I presently comfortable supporting any of the kids participating in Drug Court,” Kowalski wrote in her email to Larson.

But an Oct. 30 court filing by a deputy county attorney described a “hostile work environment” toward both Kowalski and county prosecutor Lauren Sandau. That filing sought to disqualify Larson from overseeing a juvenile case.

An Oct. 25, 2024 email from Christine Kowalski outlines some of her concerns with Missoula District Judge John Larson’s handling of a juvenile criminal case. Sam Wilson

“Judge Larson’s treatment of both Ms. Sandau and Ms. Kowalski had become generally hostile to the point that I felt it was necessary to be personally present to support them,” Deputy County Attorney Justin Ekwall wrote. “This is the only time in my legal career that I have felt the need to do anything similar for someone who was not a victim (or parent of a victim) of domestic violence, felony level violence and/or a sexual offense.”

While Missoula continues to be a retarded dumpster fire of idiocy and self-interested corruption, my situation ensures readers of this humble little blog will get LESS information from me because when I hit publish, I risk more time in jail. First Amendment protections? Yeah, right.

I’m going to wrap this up with a lovely sign I hope is removed with the rest of the trash.

A Taylor Swift sign, a cop, and a propane tank. This image perfectly encapsulates how utterly retarded Missoula has become.

Thanks for reading!
