The Conversation Ain’t What You Think It Is

by Travis Mateer

Most of you aren’t fluent when it comes to speaking psychopath, and neither am I, but it IS a language I take seriously, which is why I read Michael Snyder’s piece on The Economist cover, pictured above.

If I could say anything about 2024 it would be FUCK 2024, but as the final days of THIS year tick down, I’m already making plans for what comes next.

The legal effort to define my ’25 is shaping up to be pretty interesting, but that’s not what I’m most excited about. No, what I’m most excited about is the chance to do a literary reading, and maybe a silent auction, to benefit myself and a local business that helped keep ’24 from totally curb-stomping my motivation to stay the course.

What is this course, some might be wondering. It’s pretty simple. I did quite a lot for the narrative controllers working at the Poverello Center and then at Missoula Aging Services for a combined total of 10 years, but that all came to an end when someone didn’t like a poem of mine. Then, when Sean Stevenson was euthanized by the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office, I realized how much power existed in controlling narratives, so I dedicated my life to breaking that control at the local level because, since Sean’s death, I have seen too much happen, and the rug isn’t big enough to hide it under anymore.

If you would like to help out a citizen journalist in the Gonzo style, Travis’ Impact Fund (TIF) is the way to do it.

Thanks for reading!
