P-Diddy, P-Nut, And The Waning Influence Of Celebrities

by Travis Mateer

Today is the birthday of Sean Combs, a celebrity who continues to have some interesting influence as rumors and accusations swirl about his “freak off” sex parties. Unlike the rodent celebrity radicalizing the internet after being taken and executed by the state of New York, Sean Combs won’t be facing officially lethal consequences for his actions, but that obviously doesn’t stop the internet from speculation.

When you think about celebrities and the connections they have, the game SIX DEGREES OF KEVIN BACON comes to mind. Here’s a description of how to play this game:

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon or Bacon’s Law is a parlor game where players challenge each other to arbitrarily choose an actor and then connect them to another actor via a film that both actors have appeared in together, repeating this process to try to find the shortest path that ultimately leads to prolific American actor Kevin Bacon. It rests on the assumption that anyone involved in the Hollywood film industry can be linked through their film roles to Bacon within six steps.

Using this concept, how many degrees is Montana from P-Diddy? Either two or three, by my estimation, because we have Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis getting public scrutiny, and Mila Kunis has a new movie coming out with Glen Close, and Glen Close now lives in Bozeman, which this article goes into detail about.

First, here’s the Kutcher blurb getting fresh attention:

The Dude Where’s My Car actor said: “I’ve got a lot I can’t tell. Diddy party stories, man, that was like, some weird memory lane.”

His years-old comments went viral on social media after prosecutors accused Combs of abusing women at drug-fueled sex parties known as ‘Freak Offs’.

While Ashton has reportedly attended some of Diddy’s aboveboard bashes in the past, including his famed Labor Day White Party in the Hamptons, there’s no indication the actor ever attended a ‘Freak Off’ party.

While any actor publicly connected to Diddy is now squirming under the unwanted attention, Glen Close continues enjoying her Montana life, which she started living right before the pandemic, in 2019. According to the article linked above, Close seems to understand how much we don’t care about her ilk when she made comments like this one (emphasis mine):

Again, Close acknowledges that she’s often reticent to use her high profile to bolster causes because fame does not translate into credibility. “Lending my name is not a natural instinct for me,” she says. “And with something like the cause of bringing dignity to those who struggle with mental health issues, it’s not like you can start and then decide I just don’t want to do this anymore. For an introvert like me, it was a conscious decision and one where there was no alternative because it involves my family.”

Inspired by her sister’s courage, Glenn has lent her support, appearing at book events and rallies with her side by side, calling upon politicians and the medical community to give mental health issues the resources and dignity they deserve.

Their co-initiative, Bring Change to Mind, which she and Jessie created, is intended to bring discussions about mental health out of the dark ages and end the shame that society has imposed on its many sufferers. In Bozeman, the Closes and friends have made it clear that better mental health care needs to be a priority. And they are not going away.

Yes, I agree with Glen Close, fame DOES NOT TRANSLATE INTO CREDIBILITY, but despite this comment, here we have Glen Close making the pitch to Montanans to vote for Jon Tester, a politician who has been in power for nearly a decade while Montana’s status as a TOP STATE for suicides has NOT CHANGED.

From the link (emphasis mine):

The Democratic candidates started their joint tour of the state on Friday with rallies in Livingston and Bozeman, where actress Glenn Close made a surprise appearance in support of the Democrats, saying she would be out knocking on doors to get out the vote.

On this final day before America’s political charade hits the crescendo of bullshit, any celebrity who thinks regular Americans give a shit about their opinions need to get a reality check and fuck off. Our institutions are corrupt, are political parties are shit, and anyone who thinks their vote matters is a wishful thinking moron who must deny all the evidence to the contrary.

While American’s pull the lever for dumb or dumber on Tuesday, I’ll be thinking about another local case of another dead body found in water, and why answers on how that dead body became a dead body will NOT be forthcoming. I hope I’m wrong, but I’ve seen this scenario play out too many times in BIG SKY country, and there’s no reason to think Eva Prather’s case will be any different.

If you appreciate my uncompromising local reporting, please consider donating to Travis’ Impact Fund (TIF). I could really use some assistance to cover my expenses this month, so any little bit helps.
