Bond fatigue has finally hit Missoula, and my kids are going to pay the price. The bond to improve safety at Target Range School was voted down. I guess the safety of kids isn’t as important to voters as open spaces and parks. Or maybe it’s just one bond too much to take.

If the latter is the driving sentiment behind saying no to needed infrastructure improvements at the school then a part of the blame goes to the bond-happy political leadership of Missoula. A shiny new library, vast fields and parking lots at Ft. Missoula, millions for public schools across Missoula.

Not this time.

The failure of this bond should send a message to our political leaders, especially as the highly anticipated housing policy recommendations are set to be unveiled on May 15th.

Is a housing bond going to be one of the proposed fixes to the housing crisis in Missoula?

Maybe voters will go for a housing bond. Maybe they will vote for another stupid bond that make housing more expensive.

But for a school and the safety of that school’s children? Nah, fuck ’em.
