Dangerous Escalation in Syria

by William Skink

Things may be getting even more complicated in Syria after Turkey shot down a Russian plane. How will Russia respond?

When it comes to foreign policy, we know how Neoliberal hawks like Hillary respond to provocation: more violence, more intervention, more investment in sewing chaos. The problem for American interventionists in Syria is they are so focused on ousting Assad they seem to forget the pesky presence of the Russians and their vastly more effective offensive against the terrorists America has been pretending to fight.

While Democrats are safely corralled in the moral superiority of the refugee debate, a confrontation with a nuclear-armed Russia is brewing.

I hope things don’t go hot and ruin America’s tradition of celebrating genocide with overeating, because that would be a real bummer.

File this under “Nature abhors a vacuum”.

“Once Syrian troops retake this territory, the prospect of the West ever making an incursion into Syria, holding territory, or compromising Syria’s territorial integrity would be lost forever. Western ambitions toward regime change in Damascus would be indefinitely suspended.” – Tony Cartalucci http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/

I don’t know if this is a “good source” or not, so I’ll let Montana’s progressive interventionists worry about that. But it makes way more sense than anything I’m hearing on the MSM. Kurds, Syrian troops and Russian air support has accomplished in weeks what NATO couldn’t (wouldn’t) in four years. ISIS is ours, and is now being evacuated to fight in Yemen or exterminated in place.

    • ISIS or Islamic State is and always was a paper tiger, easily seen to be a CIA front. There are reports now of desertions –

Individual fighters for that front don’t know what’s up, any more than US troops ahve any clue why they are in Afghanistan. Saying it is a :”CIA front” does not mean that the fighters on the ground know anything other than their countries were bombed, relatives killed,a dn they seek revenge.

Cartalucci is probably one of the best independent journalists reporting on Syria and other hot spots. And of course, nothing he says will ever penetrate the prop shields of progressive interventionists.

      • They say they are “progressive” and “left.” If the policy is unchanged from one era to call them what they are: “Neocons,” Neo-nazis,” “fascists” all work for me. This country has been making war on the world for 70 years now. Every single war was based on lies. The parties rotate in and out of office, taking turns, but the policy is unchanged.,

I am reminded in the William F. Buckley – Gore Vidal debates in 1968, Buckley just about jumped out of his skin to attack Vidal when Vidal called him a Nazi. I did not realize that to be not a slur, but an accurate statement, just like Buckley’s calling Vidal a “queer” was accurate too. The US brought thousands of Nazis into the country after WWII – what are we to call them? Reformed?

What a humanely fought war!? Warn the truck drivers to abandon their crude oil filled tankers, before total destruction of a long line of oil tanker trucks.
In 17 seconds pilot and co-pilot have single or more warnings to eject before total destruction of their airplane.
While in Chicago, within 17 or so seconds, a lethal gun is drawn, there’s three seconds, then close range shots are fired, and fired much more often
when the victim is lying dead still upon the roadbed.
Gore Vidal might have said something like that.
Mark, your remembrance of Gore Vidal and W.T.F Buckley,
got me to go positive, for awhile. Thank you.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

“Countrymen, the long experience of our late miseries I hope is sufficient to persuade everyone to a present correction of himself, And think not that either my pains nor the adventurers’ purses will ever maintain you in idleness and sloth…the greater part must be more industrious, or starve…You must obey this now for a law, that he that will not work shall not eat…For the labors of thirty or forty honest and industrious men shall not be consumed to maintain a hundred and fifty idle loiterers.”

Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Swede. And to all.

As I have stated in previous posts. It’s not Imperialism when the Russians do it.
